It's a shame, for want of a better word, that the Googlebot is getting better at reading JS and AJAX queries. They can now parse data that is hauled over an Ajax call, which is new. But at there are always new ways to cloak content/hide content/fake content, you just have to think outside of the box {^^,}

Amen! And well put. I think it was SMX advanced 2 yrs ago when I came back to the office and held a meeting... 'we're not keyword stuffing our anchor texts anymore' One of my link buddies said they flipped it on it's ear 80% of keyword anchor text was gone (they still used it a little - because that looks natural) My jaw dropped when I heard that they were going after 'click here' for most of their clients!

After spending years teaching people to use your keyphrases in your anchor text it's all changed again. (I'm glad it has... it was getting spammy as hell) - If you're an avid reader in the space, you can already see those that are doing it 'right'. .02

I agree with this for links to the home page and I've even see this weird effect where an exact match anchor text link will cause a ranking boost for that term but slight drops for a few other very related, but not exact match terms. Link was in a guest blog post too on at least vaguely related site, not some BS "resources" page.

But what about internal pages? I would think an internal page should get more descriptive anchor text. Thoughts?

Hi guys.

Thanks for the interesting article.

I'm not sure I agree with, or maybe dont quite follow, your point that "having a free version will also help the rankings of the paid for alternative". Surely if you have a free and paid version of an application they are separate entities - they are not linked in anyway as far as the App Store is concerned - so this would not be the case? Interested to hear your thoughts.

I got here after a Google search for ifttt.com tasks. I was wondering if there were people sharing what they were using the service for.

I agree it's a pretty clever idea and I can think of a few things I could use it for. But as Matt mentioned, the EULA is a concern. Not sure how I feel about it yet.
